This past weekend was Railroad Days in Snoqualmie (quaint little small-town festival). I walked the half mile to downtown in order to browse the library book sale where I found a cheap copy of Gone With the Wind (which to my chagrin I have never read before). Then I wandered to the vendor stalls and found nothing I needed for prices that were twice what they should have been. Ended up settling at one of the picnic tables with an iced latte (non-fat, thank you very much) to listen to the bagpipe band on stage. Which would have been greatly enjoyable had the planners not committed the fatal mistake of setting up the chainsaw carving competition less than 300 feet away. Bagpipes and chainsaws… not exactly melodious companions.
While I was there I took a few minutes to walk the line of vintage cars. I’m not exactly a car buff but even I had to admit there were some lovely automobiles. As for the owners? They all tended toward the 50s/60s, beer-bellied, slightly grizzled, dirty jeans wearing, guys. Funny how they can lovingly buff their cars into a beautiful shine for a car show and yet they can’t manage a clean pair of jeans.
